At Turtle Bay, we prioritize connecting our guests to the arts. From our West Coast Biennial Art Show to Meet the Artist Happy Hours, we recognize the importance of celebrating the artists in our community. It is, however, a rare treat to see a talented artist at work! This past Saturday at Turtle Bay, we had the opportunity to learn from some of the professional artists featured in our latest Museum exhibit, Art and the Animal by the Society of Animal Artists.
During our “Meet and Learn” event, eleven artists from the Society of Animal Artists set up their studio in the Turtle Bay Museum. Their styles included watercolor, scratchboard, clay sculptures, block printing, and even drawings inspired by the creatures in our aquarium! Guests could watch the artists’ work come to life before their eyes, ask questions about the tools and processes used for their style, and learn directly from the experts. Some artists even had interactive activities so guests could try their hand at the art they saw! Guests were impressed by the art creation they witnessed first-hand, while the artists enjoyed the chance to share their passion with those who stopped by.
Founded in New York in the 1950s, the Society of Animal Artists is a global association of hundreds of artists who specialize in creating art of and about animals. Turtle Bay is honored to exhibit the annual show of Art and the Animal, featuring over 100 incredible pieces of artwork dedicated to animals of all kinds. When you visit the Museum exhibition, try and find some of your favorite Turtle Bay animal ambassadors in the paintings and sculptures in the gallery! Art and the Animal will be on display in the Museum Exploration Hall now through Dec 31.
