Mosaic Gallery: U-Prep Student Art Exhibition
We are excited to host artwork by Lura Wilhelm and some of her very talented University Preparatory students for free viewing at the Mosaic Restaurant Gallery. The artwork will be on display from now until the Shasta Arts Council’s Redding Cultural Cruise Art Day on Feb 1, 2020. Please refer to the description cards at the exhibit for pricing and purchase information. Here is a little background by Lura on the students and their artwork.
“At University Preparatory School, students have the opportunity to individualize their passion for art by taking Honors Art and Advanced Placement Studio Art. Within these two programs students work on developing their unique creative interests and communicate concepts through the development of an individual portfolio. Students in each class are encouraged to experiment with different styles, media and subject matter. Throughout the school year, each student challenges themselves and each other to become a better visual communicator and a skilled artist. The pieces selected to be on display include selections from each students’ portfolio.
Each of the students you see on display has accomplished and succeeded remarkably in one year of high school Beginning Art, one year of Honors Art, one year of Advanced Placement Studio Art Emphasizing in Drawing and one year of 2D Advanced Placement Studio Art. On top of their work in the classroom, Talem, Becca and Jaden have participated in several art shows in Shasta County, attended arts community events and shared their talents by teaching art to various members of our community at art education events.
They are also the leaders of the University Preparatory’s High School Art Club and as they like to put it, they are the “Art Club Tri-Presidents”. Talem, Becca and Jaden work on each other’s strengths and encourage each other to take leadership roles in different aspects of the club. They know that they are all crucial leaders in the club’s success as they focus on creativity at our school, meetings and art events. This year, because of their creativity and organizational skills they have achieved success in their first annual paint night fundraiser. All proceeds will be used for a field trip to the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco.”
