Plant-A- Tree
a Living tribute for remembrances and special occasions
“The true meaning of life is to plant a tree under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” - Norm Henderson
Recognize the special people in your life with a distinctive and long-lasting tribute. A tree from Turtle Bay’s Plant-A-Tree program is a gift as unique as the people it honors..
In a unique partnership, Turtle Bay Exploration Park and the Western Shasta Resources Conservation District are joining together to lend Mother Nature a hand to restore native forest and riparian habitats throughout Western Shasta County through the Plant-A-Tree program.

the Plant-A-Tree program.
For a minimum donation of $20, you may purchase a live tree seedling in memory of a friend, family member or in honor of a special occasion. Designated recipients receive a handsome personalized certificate, and each year a listing of those honored is added to the Plant-A-Tree kiosk; which is located in the Quarry Garden in Turtle Bay’s McConnell Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Plant-A-Tree certificates are also an excellent choice for celebrating birthdays, weddings, graduations, or anniversaries.
By purchasing a living tree through the Plant-A-Tree program at Turtle Bay you are not only giving a unique gift to celebrate a special occasion, or a long-lasting way to honor loved ones or those who have touched our lives in some way, but you are contributing to the rehabilitation of forest and riparian habitats in Shasta County.
The Plant-A-Tree program was begun by the Forest Council of Turtle Bay to help restore the native forest destroyed in the 1992 Fountain Fire off Highway 299 East. Today, Turtle Bay and the Western Shasta RCD are partnering to expand the Plant-A-Tree program to restore damaged riparian and forest habitat areas on both public and private lands in Western Shasta County.
This partnership is vital to the health of our community, through the elimination of non-native vegetation along our creeks and streams, and the restoration of the natural watershed and habitat. Trees are an ideal long-term way to capture and store, or “sequester” carbon from greenhouse gases in the environment, helping to reduce the threat of global warming. Property that has been restored to its natural state also serves to reduce the threat of catastrophic fire through the elimination of excess bio-fuels.
All trees planted through the Plant-A-Tree program are native to the replanting area.
Through the Plant-A-Tree program, Turtle Bay and Western Shasta RCD are currently working to restore forests and oak woodlands throughout the county and natural riparian habitat, particularly along Lower Clear Creek. You can help with these projects by purchasing a tree for $20, or grove of 30 trees for $500. Groves may also be obtained through cumulative donations of individual trees that multiple people purchase in memory or honor of the same recipient.
