Garden Yoga
Thursdays through August 21
7:30 - 8:30 a.m.

Join Nancy Sutton-Pierce of House of Yoga for morning yoga in the McConnell Celebration Garden. No experience is necessary. Children with parents are welcome. Bringa yoga mat, towl and water bottle. Members $7, nonmembers $10. Half-price for participating children.

Michael Garofalo, Taijquan, Qigong and Yoga teacher, will lead three informational and experiential Tai Chi sessions.  Sessions cover The Human Body and the Chinese Mind, Fitness Concepts in the Chinese Mind, and The Body and Mind Connection in the Chinese Mind. Informational handouts provided.  The Human Body in the Chinese Mind Overview of the classical Chinese understanding of the body: energy (Qi) systems, meridians, organs, Jing.The Eight Section Brocade exercise method for the training eight (Ba Gua) aspects of bodily energetics. Intro to Oil Painting
Saturdays August 30, Sept 6 & 13, 9 a.m. - noon
Learn every thing you need to start painting with oils! Students will be taught basics, like canvas stretching and mixing color, as well as more advanced techniques. The 3-part class, taught by Cultural Educator Tina Casebeer, will include time to learn preparation methods as well as ample time for painting. Most materials provided.  Call 242-3108 to register.

Mask Making, Theater Workshop
Sunday, Sept. 21, 28 & Oct. 5 with a performance on Saturday, Oct. 11
In this 3 part workshop guest instructor Thomas Wold will teach participants will make their own papier-mâché mask out of recycled materials. At the end of the class the students will use their masks in a theater performance at Redding’s new “Art Hop” downtown. This is a great opportunity for families to learn and play together! The Gift of Life: Organ Donation

Ever wonder how you could help save a life?   A California Transplant Donor Network (CTDN) team will clarify the process of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation.  Participants will learn about how these gifts are given and received as well as have the opportunity to explore questions about this incredible life saving therapy.

Nude vs. Naked: An Artist's Look at Human Anatomy and the Power of the Human Form in Art
August 20, 7 p.m.
Distinguished Artist Clint Brown has taught figure drawing for many years and is the author of a popular figure drawing text, Drawing from Life. He will talk about the artist's historical interest in human anatomy and then discuss why the nude is seen as both the visual artist's most ideal form and potentially the most disruptive subject matter.
