-
exhibition overview
Shasta Regional Medical Center proudly presents,
Thoreau's Walden: A Journey in Photographs by Scot Miller. Much more than a pond, Walden has become synonymous with finding a personal connection with nature and social communities. Photographer Scot Miller's present-day photographs of Walden, objects, and other multi-media devices immerse you in the natural beauty that inspired Thoreau and evoke his model for creating that connection in your own environment.
Thoreau's Walden features:
- Twenty-nine photographs taken by Miller over a five-year period at Walden Woods in Massachusetts that immerse the visitor in the natural beauty that inspired Henry David Thoreau
- Rare specimens and artifacts connected to Thoreau and the environment of Walden
- A short video presentation of Thoreau's legacy and how his writings influenced contemporary thinking about the natural world and our place in it
- A hands-on nature section and nature activity cards designed to engage families in local forest ecology
Thoreau's Walden is free with Park admission and is located in the Koenig Art Gallery. Additional support provided by our local hotel partner, the Hilton Garden Inn - Redding.
This exhibition was developed by the Harvard Museum of Natural History in cooperation with Scot Miller and the Walden Woods Project. Tour management provided by Cincinnati Museum Center.
